September 2008 saw the successful culmination of an exciting an unique challenge for the MRB – a collaborative project with YGLAM Performing Arts Project, and the MGLC Youth Chorus.
Beginning it late 2007, the three groups worked together to build a show from scratch, devised entirely by the participants. YGLAM is a gay and lesbian youth performing arts group, and aside from a few young-ish MRB members nearly everyone involved was 25 or under.
The eventual show, “I’m Not Drowning, I’m Learning To Swim”, was performed at Trades Hall for 4 nights in late September. The show explored issues around sexuality and fitting in, and incorporated a mix of acting, music, singing, dancing and circus skills.
