Frequently Asked Questions
Who can join the MRB?
The MRB is built around the ideals of acceptance and diversity. We welcome people of all sexualities, and aim to provide an environment free from all forms of discrimination. However, anyone who is under 18 and wishes to join the band must provide written consent from a parent or guardian.
How do I join the MRB?
Anyone is welcome to come along to a few rehearsals to find out what we’re all about. After that, an annual subscription is required to become a member ($120 standard or $60 concession per year). Email membership@mrb.org.au for more information.
Do I need to audition?
No. All we ask is that you can read music and can play your instrument at a basic level.
What instruments are in the band?
The MRB is a symphonic concert band. The instruments that make up the band are: flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, bass clarinet, alto sax, tenor sax, bari sax, trumpet/cornet, french horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba, string bass and percussion.
Where and when are rehearsals?
Rehearsals are in Windsor every Thursday night.
What sort of music does the band play?
Our repertoire is as diverse as our members. We play music from movies, musicals, tv, pop, rock, jazz, classical and everything in between. The difficulty level of the music varies from grade 2 to grade 5, depending on what we’re performing and how much we like the arrangement.
What type of performances does the MRB do?
We have regular performances each year, including the Midsumma carnival and the Australia Day Picnic at MtMacedon. We also perform one or two major ticketed concerts a year. Though we are generally a sit-down concert band, we occasionally take to the streets as a marching band, in events such as Pride March and the Sydney Mardi Gras.
How many members are in the band?
There are approximately 40 members in the band at present.
