The Melbourne Rainbow Band’s first performance under the baton of new Musical Director – David Wisken, Making Musical paid homage to the many talented writers of Broadway.
With an amazing vocal performance by the very talented Rosa McCarty, the Melbourne Rainbow Band performed a range of samples from Broadway. As host, the hilarious Anna Burgess shared musical trivia (and her own vocal rendition of the opening to The Lion King) which was enjoyed by an audience of more than two hundred people over two performances.
In leading the band on a journey through the history of Broadway, David selected a program which included the works of such names as Leonard Bernstein, Irving Berlin and Stephen Sondheim.
Program:
Rainbow Overture, composed for the MRB by Martine Wengrow
Broadway Showstoppers Overture
The Golden Age of Broadway
West Side Story
Sweeney Todd
Jesus Christ Superstar
Intermission
Les Misérables (including “I Dreamed a Dream” sung by Rosa McCarty)
Phantom of The Opera
Opening Night on Broadway
