Our first performance of the New Year was at the JoyFM Picnic in the Park. The picnic was held at Forest Glade, picturesque landscaped gardens in the Macedon Ranges owned by philanthropist Cyril Stokes. There was a slight reduction in audience numbers from the previous year due to sweltering 35-degree heat, however, Mt Macedon was still slightly cooler than Melbourne, and the audience enjoyed the change.
The MRB opened with Advance Australia Fair and Waltzing Matilda and performed two half hour shows (12:45pm & 2:30pm), with a picnic lunch in between. Mr Stokes commented that his neighbours on the next hill always compliment him on the music echoing down the ranges on Australia Day.
