This concert will be the debut of the MRB’s new musical director, Tracy Videon, and features a program inspired by the 1994 British romantic comedy which will take us musically on an emotional roller coaster through works of great composers of past centuries such as Mendelssohn, Handel and Wagner, as well as those of more recent masters such as Derek Bourgeois and Alfred Reed.

  • Grace Gives Sponsorship

The Melbourne Rainbow Band is absolutely thrilled to have recently been the recipient of a grant from Grace Removals Group.GraceGives_Logo_RGB

Through the Grace Gives program, Grace provides support to community groups and charities that Grace team members are active within.  With one of our own members being an employee of Grace the MRB was lucky enough to be chosen for a grant of $1,000 in June 2016.

These much needed funds will be used to purchase new equipment for the MRB, and in particular a set of brand new music stands.

  • Open rehearsal – Thursday 18th February 2016

Melbourne Rainbow Band invites new members.
Fresh from performing at Midsumma Carnival and Pride March, the Melbourne Rainbow Band is holding an open rehearsal. While new members are welcome at any time, the open rehearsal provides a great opportunity for players of woodwind, brass or percussion instruments who may be interested in becoming a member of the Melbourne Rainbow Band to sit in on rehearsal and meet the band.
Membership of the band is open to people of almost any musical skill level, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. “We welcome members of all sexualities and social backgrounds, in fact we are proud that we have a number of members who are heterosexual” MRB President Ben Boreham said. “The really wonderful thing about the Melbourne Rainbow Band is that while it may be our sexuality that brings us together it is our love of music and community involvement that keeps us unified”.
The Band endeavors to cater to a wide variety of musical abilities and its members range in skill, from a basic ability to read music to professional musicians and educators. A scholarship is awarded annually within the band to encourage members who are developing their music skills.
The open rehearsal will be held in Windsor at the Will Sampson Centre, Henry Street on Thursday 21st February 2013. For more information, visit www.mrb.org.au or email membership@mrb.org.au

  • MRB seeks new Musical Director

The Melbourne Rainbow Band is looking for a new Musical Director.

Following on from the recent successes of ‘Rainbow Connections’ the first of two 20th Anniversary concerts, the MRB’s Musical Director, Greg Peterson has reluctantly stepped down from this position in order to fulfill professional conducting opportunities interstate in 2016.

Greg has been an inspirational conductor who has led the band to greater musical heights.  The positive audience feedback following our performances is a reflection of his drive and passion to encourage great musicianship. Greg’s ‘back to basics’ approach at rehearsals has allowed us to take a step forward with our tuning and timing, enabling the MRB to take on some challenging and engaging music.

The MRB is now looking for someone to take up the vacancy at the conductors stand. A successful applicant will have significant experience with bands, a high degree of musicianship and be from, or friendly with the GLBTI community.

For more information, please contact president@mrb.org.au
