Summer Season 2023!

January 14, 2023

Welcome to 2023! It’s officially our favourite time of year…Midsumma!!

As always, its a busy two months – here’s what we have planned:

22 JanuaryMidsumma Carnival: See us on the main stage between 1:30pm and 2:00pm, and then listen out for us as we roam the grounds playing more music!

2 February MRB at the Pride Centre: Performing for the first time in the Pride Centre Theatrette, this will be an intimate one hour show featuring a mix of the popular as well as some classics. We guarantee to get your toes tapping. This is your chance to hear the Melbourne Rainbow Band perform an hour of our favourite music in the incredible Victorian Pride Centre as part of Midsumma Festival!

5 February – Pride March!

We can’t wait to be performing out in the sun again, always such an amazing vibe!

Unfortunately, we will not be holding our usual Picnic at Forest Glade this year.

As many of our followers would already be aware, 2022 sadly saw the passing of the Late Cyril Stokes.

As a result, MRB will be taking a break from our much loved Picnic at Forest Glade in 2023 to allow the Stokes Collection to reconvene and plan for the future.

Thank you all for your understanding!

The Melbourne Rainbow Band will be holding its Annual General Meeting at the Will Sampson Hall on Thursday, 27 August 2009, following a shortened rehearsal and a brief supper (a ‘bring a plate’ affair). Download the agenda here.

Please Note:

  1. You must be a paid-up member to vote at the AGM. (See Andrew if you need to pay for 2009/10)
  2. If you are a paid up member and are unable to attend, PLEASE email your apology to the administrator at info@mrb.org.au BEFORE the meeting.  If you would like to have your vote counted, make sure you also complete the proxy form (attached) and:
    1. Complete the form and pass it on to the administrator BEFORE the meeting to nominate another member of the band; or
    2. Email it to another member and have them forward it to the administrator at info@mrb.org.au (this is in lieu of the two signatures).
  3. Any financial member of the band may nominate to be on the committee!  Nominations need to be signed by yourself and two other members (or follow the email directions above sending the email to two paid up members, then the administrator) and must be received by the administrator at least SEVEN DAYS before the AGM (ie. At rehearsal on the 20th).

You may nominate for more than one position, and for any positions that receive more than one nomination a secret ballot will be held.  If no one has nominated for a particular position by the AGM, nominations will be accepted from the floor on the night.

  1. Bring a plate of something yummy to share.
  2. Get involved.

Joining the Committee – Your band needs you!!

There are ten positions on the committee, however only 9 are voted on at the AGM.  The tenth position is that of Musical Director.  The other positions are:

  • President
  • Vice-President
  • Administrator
  • Treasurer
  • 5 x General Committee Positions.  Members in these positions may elect to take on a specific portfolio, such as Public Relations, Membership or Librarian/custodian.

The band has seen a huge amount of growth over the past twelve months.  A new Musical Director, an increase in membership, our first sell-out concert….. and these things don’t happen by themselves.  The next twelve months will see our first ever concert series, the Gay Games in Cologne, Midsumma, Pride, ChillOut.  Be involved!  Those who participated in the workshops last month will remember a quote that Dominic used about silence and consent.  But when I typed it out… it could probably be taken the wrong way.  Thankfully, Google came to the rescue.

~ We can try to avoid making choices by doing nothing, but even that is a decision. ~ Gary Collins

Or, a little less subtle…

~ I’m tired of hearing it said that democracy doesn’t work. Of course it doesn’t work. We are supposed to work it ~Alexander Woollcott

If you have any questions, please feel free to call Ben on 0412 509 828, pop him an email or text, or see him at rehearsal.

Subs are due!

July 20, 2009

Did you know in we’ve spent over $2,000 in the last year? How about the fact we spend over $1,000 on insuring our instruments, assets and public liability? We also subside uniforms, and pay our musical director per rehearsal. Membership fees are crucial to the running of the MRB, and once again they’re due. Membership […]
