Playing on the Federation Square stage for Buddha Day allows us to stand up and be proud of the diverse community to which the MRB contributes, and the MRB has attended this multicultural festival for many years.
It was also a chance for us to try out our new repertoire for our upcoming Love & War concert, which was very well received.
We set up and dismantle our staging in record time this year, which has become a running joke in the Band. Even the best roadies admire our Band for the way everyone pitches in and lends a hand to get the job done.
We made way for the next community group, which performed a Haka, leaving us to wander some of the festival. Whilst a couple of members had to run off to the All You Need is Love concert for the MGLC, the rest of us got to enjoy the hospitality of the conveniently placed pub in Federation Square for some Band networking and socializing.
As this year saw the inclusion of community tents supporting those affected by the Victorian Bushfires in addition to the usual crafts and food stalls, the Band members found it hard not to support a good cause or resist a good spread of food.
A bonus to the day was the opportunity of the riverside setting, which provided a beautiful backdrop to take group photos of the Band.
